An exploration of Olmsted’s work, the symposium will bring together nationally known planners, designers, scholars, and thought leaders to explore how the vision of Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. has shaped landscape architecture, regional planning, and natural resource conservation in the American West. The event will also fuel excitement for the:
- 150th anniversary of the 1864 Yosemite Grant Act, which assigned management of Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove to the State of California.
- 125th anniversary of the establishment of Yosemite as a National Park in 1890.
- 2016 centennial of the National Park Service, which Olmsted Jr. championed and to which he contributed its mission statement.
