Public Input Opportunity on BioPark Master Plan

First of Three Information Sessions Scheduled for January 16th

ALBUQUERQUE, NM--The ABQ BioPark (Aquarium, Botanic Garden, Zoo and Tingley Beach) is a cultural treasure visited by over 1.2 million residents and visitors each year, earning it the position as the most-visited public attraction in the state. With a view to the future, City leaders, staff and other experts are drafting a Master Plan to help ensure that the BioPark will remain a viable and valuable asset to the community well into the future.

To ensure that the plan meets the needs and wishes of both residents and visitors, both near and long

term, the City is hosting the first of three public information sessions on Thursday, January 16th from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Vincent E. Griego Chambers at the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Government Center. Times and dates for two additional sessions have yet to be determined.

Included in the session will be an introduction to the team members who are leading the Master Plan process: Albuquerque-based NCA Architects, and Jones and Jones Architects of Seattle, Washington. City staff will also participate. A presentation by the consultant team will include discussion on what has been learned in the initial phase of the project, the BioPark's current status-strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, future options. A question/answer session will welcome input from the public.

Public interest is high, as demonstrated by over 2,000 people taking an online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ABQBioParkMasterPlan. The survey is open until January 31.

Parking will be free for those who attend and park beneath Civic Plaza (access from the east on Marquette just west of Third Street, and from the west on Tijeras east of Fifth Street). Bring your parking ticket to the Vincent E. Griego Chambers for validation.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and have the opportunity to help shape the future of the BioPark for generations to come.
